5 reasons why email is insecure
Email is a dated technique unsuitable for exchanging sensitive information. However, email is one of the most common ways to do so. Most companies still send and request sensitive documents by email on a daily basis.
Five reasons why you shouldn't use email and why SafeRequest is more secure:
1. Email is not encrypted
Emails themselves are not encrypted, meaning everyone who can intercept an email, can read it. Also most email servers do not encrypt stored emails.
→ SafeRequest uses end-to-end encryption, meaning only the intended recipient can open uploaded files. No one else has access to the files, including us.
2. Email is as secure as the weakest link
Communication between clients and servers, and amongst servers, is not guaranteed encrypted. If an email is in unencrypted transit between servers, eavesdroppers may intercept the data.
→ With SafeRequest, data does not travel from server to server. Instead the uploader uploads the encrypted files to our server, and the file stays there until the requestor downloads it.
3. Email accounts are improperly secured
Because email accounts need to be accessed by email clients, they often do not support modern security like two-factor authentication. This means that with only your password hackers have access to all your emails (received & sent).
→ Files in SafeRequest are always protected by at least two factors: by your username & password and by your private key. You can add an extra factor to increase security (advised).
4. Most data leaks are caused by email
One of the most common reasons for leaked data is because someone sent an email with sensitive data to the wrong recipient.
→ With SafeRequest, the requestor creates a request for specific files from a specific person. You can create a link which can be used by the uploader to send files. The uploader never has to specify who to send the files to, so files never end up at the wrong person.
5. Email is a common target for phishing and malware
You probably receive spam containing malicious content on a daily basis. Hackers often try to gain access to your email and your computer using fraudulent emails.
→ SafeRequest uses the most modern techniques to protect you from hackers. Because you request specific files, you are in control of what you receive.
So… SafeRequest it is!
SafeRequest is a secure and easy way to transfer sensitive information. Instead of transferring the initiative –and responsibility– to securely transfer the files to your client, you are ahead of them by offering a simple but professional branded upload page. When documents are uploaded, you'll find them in a nice request overview in your account.
